I really enjoyed this book actually, the first of Dean Koontz's books I have read it won't be the last.
Tina Evans lost her son in a tragic accident 1 year ago, having gone through a rough divorce shortly before she has spent the last year trying to convince herself that she was not to blame even though her ex husband still thinks she is.
Suddenly Tina starts getting strange messages and signs from her son Danny from beyond the grave. Not knowing if she is going mad or if someone is tormenting her she hooks up with a lawyer Elliot Stryker and the two try to find the truth behind the accident.
The story is very gripping and definitely keeps you hooked.

I really enjoyed this book. From a story I thought I knew so well I was dragged into the misty foggy darkness of gothic London and found myself unable to get out.
This is so well written that even though its not quite the horror story I expected, (it turns into more of a thriller and even "whodunnit" novel), I loved every minute of it and got completely sucked in.
Obviously everyone knows the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Dr Jekyll is dissatisfied with his life and wishes he could be more adventurous without having to worry about his reputation, and so through experiments comes up with a potion which splits a person in 2, a good side who is quite content with their uneventful life and upholding said reputation and a bad side who has no conscience to worry about. This way both can be quite content in themselves, never having to worry about the other....or so it seems.
In fact Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde are one and the same person, both completely seperate personalities, both inhabiting the same, if very different looking bodies. Jekyll cannot escape the deeds of Hyde no matter how much he tries.

'Not What You Think It Is'

I finally got around to reading this one, and it's fairly short and light so you should too. Now I thought I knew all about this story considering how many times it's been referenced (Pinky and the Brain and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen come to mind), but I came to realize that it was far different from expectations for three reasons:
1) The protagonist is a lawyer, a friend of Jekyll's, who never actually (and thus we never either) sees a transformation
2) The fact that Jekyll and Hyde are one and the same is unknown and the book is played off as a mystery until the reveal about 3/4 in.
3) Hyde, while violent and evil as we expect, is not some hulking monster at all; in fact the book makes very clear that he is smaller than Jekyll.
Either way it was pretty good.

This was a very good thriller with many unexpected twists. I liked how Naomi and others learned the truth about Robert.

Very amateurish writing - trying to imitate the old detective style genre and not succeeding. Very mystery story cliche and predictable. The ending was realized about half-way through and I had to slog through the rest of the book to get to it.
I was also thrown off by Lehane's numerous anachronisms. The book is supposed to be set in 1954, but there are references to items made of plastic, contemporary phrases like "anger management issues," a discussion of the hospital's "electronic security system," etc. Silly me -- I thought these were clues that the story wasn't really taking place in 1954 at all! Turns out Lehane and his editor are just lazy.

This mind-boggling, edge of your seat novel truly thrills its audience with deception and mystery. Lehane creates a superb storyline that captivates the reader till the very end. His presentation of the incapacities of the human mind, and the intricacies of mental disorders and personality conflicts truly questions, at times, even the reader's sanity. An easy-to-read plot quickly draws attention to extreme detail; provoking the reader to look into every word choice in order to draw the conclusions of the story. A fast-paced novel that will have the reader holding their breath at times, simply while anticipating the unexpected.

This book really kept me on my toes. I read this book in a matter of 4 days and was very pleased with the ending. I did however guess the ending but was not unsatified. Dennis Lehane did a great job keeping the reader guessing and always feeling like there would be new answers around the corner.

I always enjoy Coben's books. Good thriller and good plot.
