'Blue Dharma: The Story of Anaiyailla'

entry by...JosephHunt     updated...Dec 25, '08     spoilers...none

It is not surprising that during periods of social and economic instability, such as we find ourselves in today, there should be a revival in escapist literature that counters the grim reality of daily existence. Nor should it be surprising that there is a revival in a spiritual, as opposed to an empirical, understanding of the world. In Blue Dharma: The Story of Anaiyailla, by Joseph Hunt and Alan Adams, both of these desires are met in an engrossing tale that takes the reader on a trip to another world, but one that nevertheless resonates with the Earthly human condition.

Blue Dharma: The Story of Anaiyailla will unquestionably please fans of fantasy fiction, with its obvious parallels in Tolkien. But it might equally offer something to those just curious about the more spiritual dimensions of life.

'Be Not Deceived by Edward F. Mrkvicka'

entry by...EdwardFMrkvicka     updated...Nov 21, '08     spoilers...none

Forget Christianity for the moment. Any soul could pick up this book and be entertained, inspired and intrigued by this informative piece on the attitudes of the modern day world.

Written by Edward F. Mrkvicka, with the help of Kelly Helen Mrkvicka, Be Not Deceived turns out not to be just for the religious. Mixing words and phrases from the Bible with his own narrative, the author wonderfully conveys his message, whether you agree with it or not.

'Scientific Proof That (God The Holy) Spirit Exists'

entry by...SimonRichardLee     updated...Oct 20, '08     spoilers...none

By a quick look to its title, this three-volume book could sound a little pretentious indeed. Conveniently, most of the really interesting stuff comes with having high aims.

Written in a wise mixture of precise analysis and simple discourse, Scientific Proof that (God The Holy) Spirit Exists warns us on the risks of present and future times. This brilliant work proves to be a very stimulating reading. Whether you are a believer or not, it will offer you a lot of new perspectives to consider.

'climbing the ladder'

entry by...grey1066     updated...Jul 16, '08     spoilers...n/a

I've wanted to read this for a long time and have read passages here and there over the yars. I finally came across a used copy at Half-Price Books in the nice "Classics of Western Spirituality" series, so ample notes and annotations. This text is so packed with meaning that my own notes spill copiously on almost every page so it looks like I bled on it (well, if my blood flowed down to form letters and sentences anyway).

May be a while before I actually finish it since I try to read it slowly to absorb the meaning.

Creative and everything but with discrepancies between the philosophy described and the ghosts/celestial beings's actions. Like when saying that noone can go to heaven unless they really desire to and then the grouchy, unconvinced ghost is transformed from that state into a joyful, happy, heaven-like state by a touch... was he really convinced he wanted to go to heaven? What about trying to save the souls of the damned but then as soon as a ghost is redeemed it happily flies away. It diddn't do it for me!

I loved this book. Granted I am a diehard Lewis fan, so I'm sure my opinion is a little biased. My husband liked this book as well, but a very close friend of ours said that it didn't do much for him. I think how a reader feels about this book, has a lot to do with personal beliefs and religious/spiritual experiences; as well as personal views on faith.

'Spirituality in Lamen's Terms'

entry by...industrial_strength     updated...Jan 27, '08     spoilers...n/a

If you're interested in Buddhism, this is a great first book. It looks like a text book, but don't worry... it's quite an easy read and very easy to understand. It's very thick with flowery and nature metaphors, but if you can get past that then you'll finish this book with a much deeper understanding of Buddhism than when you started.
