In nineteen minutes, you can mow the front lawn, color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game. In nineteen minutes you can bake scones or get a tooth filled by a dentist; you can fold laundry for a family of five...In nineteen minutes you can stop the world, or you can just jump of it. In nineteen mintes you can get revenge.
Sterling is a small, ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens — until the day its complacency is shattered by a shocking act of violence. In the aftermath, the town's residents must not only seek justice in order to begin healing but also come to terms with the role they played in the tragedy. For them, the lines between truth and fiction, right and wrong, insider and outsider have been obscured forever. Josie Cormier, the teenage daughter of the judge sitting on the case, could be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened in front of her own eyes.
Amazing read and became engrossed in this in well, nineteen minutes. I felt it had a surprise ending about what truely happened during those life changing minutes. Can your own child become a mystery to you? What does it mean to be different in our society? Is it ever okay for a victim to strike back? And who — if anyone — has the right to judge someone else? Jodi Picoult answers all this questions brillently, and is a must read.

This books was so much better than I expected it to be and very conflicting to me. I empathized with this teenager's agonizing school years and understood the rage he must have felt -- at the same time, I couldn't condone his final decisions. Rich with psychological and social insight, Nineteen Minutes is a riveting, poignant, and thought-provoking novel that has at its center a haunting question. Do we ever really know someone?"

This novel was truly a great way for Picoult to encompass even more harsh realities and challenges that are facing our society every day. The idea of the school shooting in a small-town, stemming from the Columbine tragedy, was a great choice to preface an intense novel full of emotion and passion. Again, Picoult manages to throw in multiple twists and turns, and with a suprise ending to sum up the entire plot, we find ourselves sympathizing with the wrong character through the entire novel, only to change our feelings at the end. This novel is a page turner through and through and is extremely difficult to put down.
