Another in the Series of Unfortunate Events. I was getting a bit bored with the series but in this one, the plot really thickens. The orphans meet some friends, also orphans, who are captured by Count Olaf for their fortune.
I assume they'll come up in the next few books. I also think there's a mystery brewing around the author, with more hints being dropped in each book. Hopefully that will develop into something. Looking forward to the next book.

One of my favorites. The appearance of the Quagmire triplets. Also, Vice Principal Nero. This book also proves that gym teachers are always evil.

'My thoughts'

entry by...krin5292     updated...Jul 13, '08     spoilers...n/a

This was a powerfully moving book about the ambiguousness of family relationships. At times, I wished to hear Kevin's point of view, but Eva's honest and searing account held my interest throughout.

This book turned out to be incredibly scary and depressing. The mother/narrator dislikes her child from the moment he's born. He's obviously a monster, and the school shooting seems inevitable by the end. I guess the good part is that Kevin is so foreign and unlike anyone I've ever known that he's almost less scary and more of just a mother's nightmare. As someone who is unsure about whether or not I want children, this book encapsulated everything I fear the most- having a terrible child, not loving my child.
However, the story was very well constructed- the end caught me totally by surprise.
I would never find myself trapped in a life like that.

blah.. not what i expected. The main character, or voice, was just plain annoying to me. She seemed to take too long to explain even the must mundane parts of the story. Annoying. Not what I expected.

'We need to talk about Kevin Review'

entry by...drneevil     updated...May 22, '07     spoilers...minor

BLURB
We Need to Talk About Kevin is a 2003 novel by Lionel Shriver, concerning a fictional school massacre. It is written from the perspective of the killer's mother, Eva Khatchadourian, and documents her attempt to come to terms with her son Kevin and the murders he committed. Although told in the first person as a series of letters from Eva to her husband, the novel's structure also strongly resembles that of a thriller
