BLURB

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fate of two tribes hangs.

Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life - first discovered in TWILIGHT, then scattered and torn in NEW MOON and ECLIPSE - seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed. . .forever?

I love the way Stephenie Meyer wrote this series. Breaking Dawn put everything together in the series. It tied up most of the loose ends coming all the way from Twilight. The first half of the book had me a little scared because the author seemed to be beating about the bush a lot. Bella was going though her usual motions of whinning and wondering about been loved. She was also complaining about having the perfect story book wedding which made me roll my eyes a bit. I forsaw that Edward and Bella would finally get down to business after the wedding. I also forsaw that Edward would whine and want to stop because he thought he was hurting Bella and Bella would win the agruement eventually. but I did not predict the outcome of their union. I guess I have to work on my Alice abilities. The second section of the book was told from Jacob's perpective. I initally thought that was not going to work out but it ended up been okay and added a little something different to the book. I also became very interested in Jacob after this. I liked him from the previous books but I loved him in Breaking Dawn. Jacob finally imprinted, I was so glad this was not an ordinary occurance because nothing about Jake has been ordinary so far. Bella finally tranformed. About time. I also loved the conclusion of the book, it was very well written. I just hope the upcoming movies can do the series justice.

This book started off a little weird. But then I think everyone would agree that an 18 year old who gets pregnant to a vampire and pops out a rapidly maturing baby is a little strange. The second part of the book, when Bella is turned, is much better in my opinion.

One thing I felt was disappointing about this book was that the build up to Edward and Bella consummating their relationship (for want of a better phrase) never really reached a climax but fell rather flat and was over in a turn of a page. I do understand that this book is aimed at young teens but with television the way it is these days, I would have thought that Stephanie Meyer would at least describe the moment a wee bit, even if only in cliche metaphors and euphamisms. But then maybe she thought these things were better left to the imagination.

All in all, "Breaking Dawn" is a nice tie up to the "Twilight" series.

Waugh allows his Catholicism to prevent him from writing a great book. The end feels forced and too didactic. Too bad, it was really enjoyable till the very end.

A young college student gets to know and love the Brideshead family: a rich, upper-class eccentric family. An interesting look at English society in the early to mid 1900s.

This book wasn't as fun as Zorro, the only other book I've read by Isabel Allende, but it was vibrant and exciting to read. I had trouble keeping some of the minor characters strait, since the names were Spanish and I was listening instead of reading. I also felt like some sections were glossed over and could have been filled out more, since other sections had lots of detail. I imagine that's what it's like to read an abridged version of a book.
I learned a lot about the Spanish colonization of South America- what an interesting, sad history- and the period.

The story of European settlement of Chile (and, more specifically, the city of Santiago). The heroine, Ines Suarez, becomes the mistress of Spanish commander Pedro de Valdivia and plays a crucial role in the founding of Chile and Santiago. I picked this book up because we had just returned from a cruise around South America which began in Santiago and continued on down south through the rest of Chile and beyond. I thought I might be interested in learning a bit more about the history of the area, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was exciting, well-written and very interesting as well as historical.

I think that vampire Bill was a bit boring, so I really like this Sookie Stackhouse book. Bill has disappeared and Sookie sets out to find home. The world of the supernatural takes more shape as she discovers more shape shifters and werewolves. Her relationship with Alcide is extremely sexy.
I loved this book and can't wait to read the next in the series.

The classic novel about creepy old Heathcliffe and his entourage. I re-read this book at Halloween, and it really is a fitting time to read it then.

I had no earthly idea what people see in this book. I do love classics and I do love women writers. So what's so wrong with this one? I couldn't stand Heathcliff. I hated Cathy and thought she was a wimp

Can anyone out there help me understand the value of this classic?
I would love the help!

'Wuthering Heights Review'

BLURB
the story is narrated by Lockwood, a gentleman visiting the Yorkshire moors where the novel is set, and of Mrs Dean, housekeeper to the Earnshaw family, who had been witness of the interlocked destinies of the original owners of the Heights. In a series of flashbacks and time shifts, Brontė draws a powerful picture of the enigmatic Heathcliff, who is brought to Heights from the streets of Liverpool by Mr Earnshaw. Heathcliff is treated as Earnshaw's own children, Catherine and Hindley. After his death Heathcliff is bullied by Hindley, who loves Catherine, but she marries Edgar Linton. Heathcliff 's destructive force is unleashed, and his first victim is Catherine, who dies giving birth to a girl, another Catherine. Isabella Linton, Edgar's sister, whom he had married, flees to the south. Their son Linton and Catherine are married, but always sickly Linton dies. Hareton, Hindley's son, and the young widow became close. Increasingly isolated and alienated from daily life, Heathcliff experiences visions, and he longs for the death that will reunite him with Catherine.

REVIEW
I HATE this book with a passion beyond description. All could have been avoided if even one of the immmense cast had a conscious. But no, these two dimensional idiots are all idiots - incapable of personal growth......GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
And Heathcliffe - how can anyone place him in the same light as Mr Darcy or Rochester? A romantic hero - I think not!

UPDATE
My mother recently re-read this book for the first time since she was a teenager, with her book club. Though all the women had loved it when they were younger, they felt in the main the same way as I do!
rotton sentimental drivel!

'Sense and Sensibility Review'

BLURB
The story revolves around the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne. Whereas the former is a sensible, rational creature, her younger sister is wildly romantic--a characteristic that offers Austen plenty of scope for both satire and compassion. Commenting on Edward Ferrars, a potential suitor for Elinor's hand, Marianne admits that while she "loves him tenderly," she finds him disappointing as a possible lover for her sister.

Soon however, Marianne meets a man who measures up to her ideal: Mr. Willoughby, a new neighbor. So swept away by passion is Marianne that her behavior begins to border on the scandalous. Then Willoughby abandons her; meanwhile, Elinor's growing affection for Edward suffers a check when he admits he is secretly engaged to a childhood sweetheart. How each of the sisters reacts to their romantic misfortunes, and the lessons they draw before coming finally to the requisite happy ending forms the heart of the novel. Though Marianne's disregard for social conventions and willingness to consider the world well-lost for love may appeal to modern readers, it is Elinor whom Austen herself most evidently admired; a truly happy marriage, she shows us, exists only where sense and sensibility meet and mix in proper measure.

Elinor is almost my favourite of Austen's heroines - beated only by Elizabeth because Edward is a bit of a wimp. Nevertheless, this is a fun book, that draws you in.
