Rad. Bit difficult to get into with so many characters, and not as awesome as Fun Home but, then, what is?

This blew me away, but I remain very baffled by the sudden turn at the end. It's been a very long time since I've had such a crush on a fictional character, but Myra's return to Myron kind of threw that all back in my face. The edition I have contains the sequel, Myron; I plan to read it soon, but I don't know how soon. I think I need a little while to mull this over.

Otherwise, Gore Vidal has made it into my list of top whatever people in the world. This was so bright, so funny, so alive, so visceral and, crucially, very, very interesting. Go Gore.

Hmm. Overall I am glad to own and have read this book - there is a massive bias in queer theory towards masculine expressions of identity, so I think it's really important that books on the subject of femme exist. However, I'm not just going to blindly adore it because I'm grateful for its attention to subject matter that I deem important and underrepresented; I was often bothered by the lack of criticism of any of the people discussed, or their ideas, and found the tone at times overwhelmingly gushing. Consistently excellent pictures, though.

I can't get over how awesome this is? Alison Bechdel called it 'a scathing and meticulously documented autobiographical triumph', which is VERY TRUE.

Oh, my god. Obviously I have not read properly in ages - I was going to document the books I was reading for uni but then I never finished any - but this was EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED TO GET BACK IN. Fucking sublime. I need my own copy immediately. Mmmm.

Graphic novel. Great images that just enhance and play along with the story. It's always amazing to me how an author can write literally two or three sentences on a page in a graphic novel, and you can still feel it tug at your heart strings. Great book. Wacky family for sure, with funny and serious elements.

Not half as good as Myra, but not bad. Some clunkiness, but also lots of that precise bitchiness I so love Vidal for. Ending continues to disturb me - rape scene very well written.

Normally, I think every creative endeavor can be improved through the addition of gayness. But strangely, I think this book is much more engaging and winning when it is focusing on how the narrator's religion (they are fundamentalist Christians in 1960's England), isolates her and her mother from the rest of the world.

The gay coming out and being rejected by family and friends is so old and done. It bores me.

I like the fantasy story bits when they don't too directly parallel the events of the plot. When they're a little en point, they are overly obvious as a cute storytelling technique, rather than illuminating something one didn't already understand.

I really, really enjoyed this. Very clearly written, hilarious, devastating, woven so seamlessly into fairytale ... very sexy, very tragic.

Well, sure it was funny, and I enjoyed the metaphysical timey-wimey elements, but it was no Myra, and smacked of being written solely to self-congratulate. Poor, Gore.
