This book was so sad!! I've really been in denial for some time that any of the remaining original Trib Force members would die, which this book shattered. It's been really obvious since the first book, when Bruce told the newly saved group that only 1/4 of the earth's current population would remain at the end of the seven years and Rayford (I believe it was him) looked around and commented that that meant three of them would die, that more deaths were coming. It was so close, though, that I still had hope. Chloe's death was heartwrenching. To make matters worse, it left me crying and frustrated. I know it's been a running theme that Chloe always feels slighted by everyone else getting dangerous missions, yet her actions seemed *too* rash. One minute the authors want us to believe that she's this intelligent, independent woman capable of great things, and the next she's deciding that sneaking out when GC has been spotted is smart. It just doesn't compute. So if she was going to die, I wish it could have been under a little less contrived circumstances. I also thought Buck's death was completely weak and unclear. However, I did like the book. It was a good close, even though it was so sad.

The book contained some of the biggest shifts in some time in this series, yet it still seemed a little less exciting than some of the previous books. Most of the actions were necessary though, which I understand, and the parts dealing with New Babylon were interesting. Having a new character introducted was also good, however he should have been developed more.
