I've decided to give up on this book. It is just too boring to finish.

I'm about halfway through and I'm not sure if I will finish. I've been trying to finish it for 2 weeks but so far the story is pretty boring. This is the third in the Margaret of Ashbury series and the characters have pretty much devolved into one dimension characters. Which is pretty disappointing since I really enjoyed the first book in the series.

This has always been my favorite of the Discworld books. It's as funny as the others, but it seems to be more serious to me, as well. There is an honesty about some of the aspects of religion and free thinking that makes it more of a social commentary than some of Pratchett's other books.
I love Brutha's blind faith and gradual awakening. I like Om's transition into a God who understands justice. I love the comeuppance at Death for Vorbis.

'Scientific Proof That (God The Holy) Spirit Exists'

entry by...SimonRichardLee     updated...Oct 20, '08     spoilers...none

By a quick look to its title, this three-volume book could sound a little pretentious indeed. Conveniently, most of the really interesting stuff comes with having high aims.

Written in a wise mixture of precise analysis and simple discourse, Scientific Proof that (God The Holy) Spirit Exists warns us on the risks of present and future times. This brilliant work proves to be a very stimulating reading. Whether you are a believer or not, it will offer you a lot of new perspectives to consider.

I, Lucifer: Finally, the Other Side of the Story

This book had a fascinating premise- the devil is allowed to live in a human's body for 30 days. If he stays permanently, he can return to heaven when his human host dies.
It's very funny and fast paced- it's non-stop references from everything from Paradise lost to Bono. The devil seemed to be modeled after Milton's Satan- interesting and clever to God and his angels blandness.
The downside to this book was that it was almost too clever for its own good. I know I was missing some of the references so it was kind of bogged down in parts.
Overall, it was funny, intelligent, and thought-provoking. I was thrilled that it didn't have the totally cliche ending of the devil reforming.

'I Lucifer, Finally The Other Side Of The Story Review'

entry by...drneevil     updated...Mar 01, '08     spoilers...minor

BLURB

Glen Duncan’s I, Lucifer begins one steamy summer as some heavy negotiations are taking place in Heaven. God has decided to give Lucifer, the furthest-fallen of all fallen angels, a second chance. The Prince of Darkness can return to the fold, provided he manages to last one month on earth without sin. The human form chosen for this celestial experiment? A depressed novelist of little renown, currently contemplating suicide in his Clerkenwell garret.

Lucifer eagerly grasps the opportunity for a holiday on earth, and uses his host’s identity to re-write the story of Creation in a format that has Hollywood moguls kissing his feet. It’s not popular with Him Upstairs, of course, what with the Devil being portrayed as a maverick free-thinker and God as a humourless autocrat. But Lucifer’s having too much fun to care. He’s experiencing the pleasures of the flesh for the first time and everything – the odour of sweaty tube trains, cocaine, ice-cream, dirty sex--delights him. By the time the archangels are dispatched to bring him back, the Lord of all that’s inhumane can’t think of anything he’d rather be than human.

This book is by far one of the best religion based books I have read thus far. This and Memnoch are con traversal in the sense that it actual entices you to think, "what if" .

wonderful language. all about marriage etc
unfortunately, however, none of them seem to fall in love first, the men are the first to feel affection. Hence, what books have female heroines that conquer their men?

Soooo Fantastic! I must say that if you don't fall in love with Mr. Darcy I will never be able to understand you.

I didn't give my daughters the middle names of Jane and Elizabeth without reason!

'Pride and Prejudice Review'

Aside from being a cutting social commentary, witty and well written, this was the first 'grown up' book my mum recommended that I read on my own.

From the iconic opening line, this book had me entralled, and Elizabeth became a fictional icon for me!

The BBC version and recent movie are also terrific!

'motivational'

entry by...slowtostart     updated...Jan 03, '07     spoilers...none

This book was more of a motivational push to christians to be less apathetic about their beliefs. Marketed to average-joe believers, I would compare it to a self-help book for overweight people to start taking control of their weight. At first I was sceptical it might be a little fanatical but was fairly satisfied by the end that this was just a nice book christians might have on their shelf and say they've read. My life certainly didn't change with one reading, but then again I didn't buy the workbook, journal, mug, water bottle or other merchandise that came with it and maybe that effected my learning experience.
