REALLY GOOD. I love Portia, she's such a cool 18th century character.

'Laugh out loud funny'

entry by...elspeth97     updated...Apr 04, '07     spoilers...n/a

Dave Barry always manages to crack me up. In this book, he travels in Japan where the differences in culture make for a hilarious travelogue. From the Kibuki theater (I tried to read this part to my son and laughed so hard I could not get the words out) to plastic food displays, this is a most enjoyable read.

This is a great book about one of my very favourite comedians.

Blurb:
Who is the real Billy Connolly? He's the man who needs no introduction, and yet he is the ultimate enigma. From a troubled and desperately poor childhood in the docklands of Glasgow he is now the intimate of household names the world over. But who is the man behind the myth?
If anyone knows Billy Connolly better than himself, its his wife, Pamela Stephenson.
In this extraordinary book, she combines the very personal with a frank objectivity that makes for a compellingly moving - yet hugely entertaining - biography.

So this book was not quite what I expected, written by Billy's wife, Pamela Stephenson (who is also a comedian), it starts off with less of a bang than I would have thought. Pamela gives great insight into Billy's family history, his grandparents and parents lives before he was even thought of.

While not the laugh a minute I expected, it was nonetheless a very enjoyable read, gave a fantastic understanding of the man behind the laughs, and chronicles Billys journey through drink and drugs.

Don't get me wrong, there were still very funny moments in it, but it is definitely more of a serious biography than most would expect.

Definitely recommend it if your a fan of Billy Connolly at all!

Here Richard Hammond reveals the stories behind a few of the documentaries and Top Gear films he has made.

Its hilariously witty and laugh out loud funny the whole way through. From describing taking a toilet break in the North Pole while his cameramen threw frozen Polar Bear poo at him to the story of rescuing his friends from their flooded house in an ornamental boat, it is interesting, enlightening and very enjoyable.

My favourite part of the book would have to be when he detailed his 20 mile run home in the middle of the night when his car got stuck behind barricades because of huge levels of flooding, just so that he could fulfill his promise to his daughter to be there for her birthday!

My favourite book when I was a child tells the story of two best friends, Rosie and Nicobobinus, and their quest to find the land of the dragons. This book is about greed vs good, and believing in yourself and your abilities and would make a fantastic stage play with action ranging from the streets of Venice to a Pirate ship run by murderous (yet Godly) monks. I love this book because in it, they can literally do anything, and because the friendship between the two main characters is one of the most simple, yet evolved I have ever seen, especially in fiction meant for children- again, cannot wait to read to my kids and always give a presents to other peoples.
